This page is about fixing issues with audio, video and game discs.

Sometimes smaller cracks will appear and increase from the center area of the disc. This is known as the spindle or HUB part of the disc. These cracks likely are caused by the removal of the disc from it's discholder. The holder may not have been properly creatd in the mold and extra stress is on the disc.

Suggestions online have come from people with the problem. When the cracks are minor and do not affect event the grooved play area of a disc, it's possible they will not continue to crack in that area. Taking care to remove and insert the disc from its case will of course be needed at a minimum. Next, the question arises, can we prevent the cracking by adding adhesive to the area, or relieving the stress with a small hole drilled?

HUB Labels are stickers used for identifying discs in a library. Hub labels if affixed to one or both sides of the hub area may help prevent extra unnecessary movement.

Another thought, again untested is melting the area with some sort of substance that would melt it. This process may be similar to the fixes done for repairing cracks in vehicle wind shields.

• Super glue or CA glue applied with a needle to crack area to seal it up.
• Clear hub label applied (perfectly balanced) to one or both sides of the disc
• Full size CD plastic overlay applied to top side of disc
• sanding to CD case box area where spindle area is attached to encase it
• Light sanding to inner hub ring to take off a small amount of pressure (again evenly balanced

Ensuring spin balance, ensuring the disc will work in all necessary devices, ensuring that things aren't made worse with any changes.

With the highest grit sanding material found, you may be able to polish something to a new fresh surface.
